We are a small team of volunteer coaches with a wide range of skills and experience. All our coaches are qualified Judo Coaches with our national organization and Sport Ireland qualifications. All our Coaches have completed First Aid training, Children’s Compliance and Garda Vetting.

Tadhg Kelly
Technical Director and Head Coach
Tadhg Kelly is the Technical Director and Head Coach of Killarney Judo Club and the guiding force behind its standards, culture, and long-term success. With over 40 years of experience in judo, Tadhg has shaped generations of judoka, from beginners stepping onto the mat for the first time to advanced black belts competing at national level.
A former All-Ireland Champion and Munster coach, Tadhg is responsible for all technical direction within the club, including grading standards, coach mentorship, and the overall development pathway. His coaching philosophy centres on strong fundamentals, respect, discipline, and confidence.
Tadhg remains actively involved on the mat, ensuring that every class reflects the high standards he has established over decades of dedication to the sport.
Alan Horgan
Youth Development Director
Alan Horgan leads the club’s children’s programme with energy, clarity, and care. A 3rd Dan Black Belt and experienced international competitor, Alan has represented Ireland on the competitive stage and earned silver medals at the Scottish Open.
Alan specialises in teaching young judoka, creating sessions that are structured, fun, and confidence-building while laying strong technical foundations. His classes emphasise discipline, teamwork, and enjoyment; helping children grow both on and off the mat.
As Head Children’s Coach, Alan is responsible for junior development, early competition preparation, and ensuring a positive first experience of judo for every child.


Tim Kelly
Club Operations and Development Leadr Development Coach
Tim Kelly plays a central role in the operation, organisation, and long-term development of Killarney Judo Club. A 3rd Dan Black Belt, Tim supports both junior and adult classes while ensuring the club operates to the highest standards of governance, safeguarding, and organisation.
In addition to his club role, Tim serves as Honorary General Secretary of the Irish Judo Association, bringing valuable national-level experience in administration, policy, and strategic development back to Killarney Judo.
Tim’s work behind the scenes ensures that classes, gradings, events, and initiatives run smoothly, allowing coaches and athletes to focus fully on training and progression.
AIDAN Forde
Club Operations and Development Lead
Aidan Forde is a Junior Development Coach at Killarney Judo Club, working closely with the youth coaching team to support the growth and progression of young judoka. A 1st Dan Black Belt, Aidan brings energy, approachability, and a strong focus on participation and confidence-building.
Alongside his coaching role, Aidan is actively involved in the development of the club’s dedicated dojo at Derreen, helping to shape a permanent training space that will support the future expansion of Killarney Judo Club. His work focuses on creating a welcoming, functional environment that benefits both current members and future generations of judoka.
